She Read His Text Saying “I’m Busy”… Then Found a Knife and a Strange Drawing in His Room

At 11:47 p.m., Emily Carter looked at the message on her phone for the third time.

“I’m busy. We’ll talk later.”

It was only four words.

But somehow, those four words made her uncomfortable.

Emily was 25 years old and had known Daniel for almost two years. They had built a relationship based on trust, long conversations, and countless ordinary moments that had slowly become important to both of them.

Daniel was not usually the type of person who disappeared without explanation.

That night, however, everything felt different.

Earlier in the evening, Emily had tried calling him twice.

He didn’t answer.

She sent another message.

“Are you okay?”

Several minutes passed.

Then his reply arrived.

“I’m busy.”

Nothing else.

No explanation.

No apology.

No promise to call.

Emily stared at the screen while sitting in her car outside Daniel’s apartment building.

She could have driven home.

Part of her wanted to.

But another part of her felt that something wasn’t right.

She finally stepped out of the car and walked toward the apartment.

Daniel’s door was unlocked.

That immediately made her stop.

She knocked.

“Daniel?”

No answer.

She knocked again.

“Daniel, it’s me.”

Silence.

Emily slowly pushed the door open.

The apartment was unusually quiet.

The living room lights were off. A cup of coffee sat untouched on the table. Daniel’s jacket was hanging near the entrance, which meant he had probably been home recently.

Emily called his name again.

Nothing.

Then she noticed the bedroom door.

It was slightly open.

She walked toward it.

As she pushed the door wider, moonlight from the window fell across the room.

At first, everything looked normal.

Then Emily noticed the table beside the bed.

There was a knife lying on it.

She stopped.

The knife wasn’t covered in blood, and there was no obvious sign that anyone had been hurt. But its presence was strange enough to make her nervous.

Then she noticed the paper underneath it.

A drawing.

It was a rough, unsettling design made with black ink.

It showed a strange symbol surrounded by lines and shapes that Emily couldn’t understand.

She picked it up.

Her first thought was that Daniel had drawn it.

But then she noticed something written on the back.

One sentence.

“If she finds this, everything will change.”

Emily’s hands became cold.

“Who is she?” she whispered.

She read the sentence again.

The wording frightened her more than the knife.

Someone had clearly written that message for a reason.

And whoever had written it apparently knew that a woman might discover the drawing.

Emily looked around the room.

The closet door was closed.

The curtains moved slightly because of the open window.

Everything else was completely still.

She placed the paper back on the table.

Then her phone vibrated.

Emily nearly dropped it.

A new message had arrived.

It was from Daniel.

“Don’t come inside.”

Emily’s heart stopped.

She looked toward the bedroom door.

If Daniel had just sent her that message, where was he?

And why had he told her not to come inside when she was already there?

She quickly typed:

“Where are you?”

The message showed as delivered.

No response.

Then she heard something.

A faint sound from the hallway.

Footsteps.

Emily froze.

Someone was approaching the bedroom.

She immediately stepped behind the door.

The footsteps became louder.

One step.

Then another.

The bedroom handle slowly moved.

Emily held her breath.

The door opened.

But Daniel wasn’t standing there.

A stranger walked into the room.

He was wearing a dark jacket and carrying a folded piece of paper.

Emily covered her mouth to stop herself from making a sound.

The stranger looked toward the table.

He saw the knife.

Then he noticed that the drawing had been moved.

His expression changed.

“She’s been here,” he whispered.

Emily’s heart pounded.

The stranger reached for the paper.

Before he could pick it up, Emily’s phone vibrated again.

The stranger turned.

Emily realized she had seconds to make a decision.

She stepped out from behind the door.

“Who are you?”

The stranger immediately backed away.

“You shouldn’t be here.”

“Where is Daniel?”

The stranger didn’t answer.

“Where is he?” Emily demanded.

Finally, the man looked at her.

“Daniel asked me to find that drawing.”

Emily looked at the paper.

“What is it?”

The stranger hesitated.

“It’s not what you think.”

“That doesn’t answer my question.”

The stranger sighed.

“The symbol on that paper belongs to Daniel’s father.”

Emily was confused.

Daniel had rarely talked about his father.

As far as she knew, his father had died years earlier.

“What does that mean?”

The stranger placed the second piece of paper on the table.

“This is the same symbol.”

Emily looked at it.

The design was almost identical.

Then the stranger said something that made her stomach drop.

“Daniel has been trying to figure out why his father left it behind.”

Emily slowly sat down.

“Why didn’t he tell me?”

“Because he thought you might be in danger.”

The room suddenly felt much smaller.

Emily remembered Daniel’s strange behavior during the previous week.

The unanswered calls.

The late-night conversations that stopped whenever she entered the room.

The way he had recently started checking the windows before going to bed.

She had assumed he was stressed.

Now she wasn’t so sure.

“Where is he?” Emily asked again.

The stranger looked toward the window.

“He went to meet someone.”

“Who?”

“I don’t know.”

“You expect me to believe that?”

The stranger reached into his pocket and pulled out a small photograph.

He placed it on the table.

Emily picked it up.

The photograph showed three people standing outside an old building.

One of them was Daniel’s father.

The second was a woman Emily didn’t recognize.

And the third person was—

Emily stared at the photograph.

Her face went pale.

She knew him.

It was Daniel.

But the photograph looked decades old.

“How is that possible?”

The stranger didn’t respond immediately.

Then he said:

“That’s what Daniel has been trying to understand.”

Emily turned the photograph over.

There was another sentence written on the back.

“The truth was never buried. It was hidden.”

Suddenly, the apartment lights went out.

Emily jumped.

The stranger immediately moved toward the window.

“Stay quiet.”

“Why?”

“Someone is outside.”

They both looked toward the curtains.

A shadow moved across the window.

Then the sound disappeared.

Several seconds passed.

Nothing.

The stranger slowly opened the curtain.

There was nobody there.

But on the ground outside the building was another piece of paper.

Emily and the stranger looked at each other.

He opened the window and reached down.

When he brought the paper inside, Emily saw the same strange symbol.

This time, however, there was a message beneath it.

“Stop looking.”

Emily felt a chill run through her.

“Who is doing this?”

The stranger folded the paper.

“That’s the question Daniel has been trying to answer.”

Emily’s phone vibrated again.

This time, the message wasn’t from Daniel.

It came from an unknown number.

“You should have gone home.”

Emily stared at the screen.

Then another message appeared.

“Now they know you saw the drawing.”

She looked at the stranger.

“What does that mean?”

The stranger’s expression became serious.

“It means this isn’t Daniel’s secret anymore.”

For several seconds, neither of them spoke.

Then Emily noticed something she had missed earlier.

The strange drawing wasn’t just a random symbol.

When she looked closely, she could see a small series of numbers hidden inside the design.

She read them aloud.

“Seven… two… nine… one…”

The stranger suddenly interrupted her.

“Don’t say those numbers.”

“Why?”

“Because they’re a location.”

Emily looked at him.

“A location to where?”

He didn’t answer.

Instead, he grabbed the drawing.

“We need to leave.”

“I’m not going anywhere until I find Daniel.”

The stranger stared at her.

“You don’t understand. Whoever sent those messages knows you’re here.”

Emily looked toward the door.

For the first time that night, she realized something terrifying.

The person who had written “If she finds this, everything will change” may not have been talking about some unknown woman.

They may have been talking about her.

The knife wasn’t necessarily the mystery.

The drawing wasn’t necessarily the danger.

The real danger might have been the person watching from the shadows.

Emily picked up her phone.

She opened her conversation with Daniel.

There was still no reply.

Then she noticed something.

The last message from Daniel had been sent from his phone.

But the location attached to the message showed that his phone was still inside the apartment.

Emily looked around.

“If his phone is here…”

She stopped.

The stranger slowly turned toward the bedroom closet.

Neither of them moved.

The closet door was still closed.

Then they heard a sound from inside.

A faint vibration.

Emily’s phone displayed another incoming message.

“Don’t open the closet.”

She looked at the stranger.

The stranger looked at the closet.

Neither spoke.

Then the vibration stopped.

Emily took one slow step forward.

The stranger whispered:

“Emily, don’t.”

She reached for the closet handle.

And just before she opened it, someone knocked on the apartment door.

Three slow knocks.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

Emily froze.

The stranger whispered:

“That’s not Daniel.”

The apartment became completely silent.

Then a voice came from the other side of the door.

A voice Emily recognized.

Daniel.

“Emily… open the door.”

Her eyes widened.

The stranger shook his head.

“Don’t.”

Emily looked at the closet.

Then at the door.

Then at the knife and the mysterious drawing on the table.

For the first time, she understood that the message “I’m busy” had never been a normal excuse.

It had been the beginning of a mystery.

And whatever was waiting behind that door could finally reveal the truth.

Emily slowly reached toward the lock.

Then the lights came back on.

The closet door was open.

The stranger was gone.

And on the table, beside the knife, was a new message.

“You were never supposed to find him.”

Emily stared at the words.

Then she heard Daniel’s voice again from the hallway.

“Emily?”

She slowly turned toward the door.

And this time, she knew one thing for certain.

Whatever happened next would change her life forever.
